لَّيْسَ ٱلْبِرَّ أَن تُوَلُّوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ قِبَلَ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱلْبِرَّ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ وَءَاتَى ٱلْمَالَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ ذَوِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْيَتَٰمَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَٱلسَّآئِلِينَ وَفِى ٱلرِّقَابِ وَأَقَامَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتَى ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلْمُوفُونَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ إِذَا عَٰهَدُوا۟ ۖ وَٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ فِى ٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ وَحِينَ ٱلْبَأْسِ ۗ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ ۖ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ﴿177﴾
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.

← read from right to left2[the] righteousnessالْبِرَّl-biraIالthe+بِرَّ[the] righteousness 4You turnتُوَلُّواtuwalluF 5Your facesوُجُوهَكُمْwujuhakumCBIN+PRONATTوُجُوهَYour faces+كُمْyou / your (pl.) 7The eastالْمَشْرِقِl-mashriqiIالthe+مَشْرِقِEast 8And the westوَالْمَغْرِبِwal-maghribiCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+مَغْرِبِWest 9[and] butوَلَكِنَّwalakinnaCBHCONJ+ACCوَand+لَكِنَّ[and] but 10The righteous[ness]الْبِرَّl-biraIالthe+بِرَّRighteous[ness] 13In Allahبِاللَّهِbil-lahiCBIP+PNبِwith / in+اللَّهِAllah 14And the dayوَالْيَوْمِwal-yawmiCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+يَوْمِDay 15[the] lastالْآخِرِl-akhiriIالthe+آخِرِ[the] last 16And the angelsوَالْمَلَائِكَةِwal-mala'ikatiCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+مَلَائِكَةِAngels 17And the Bookوَالْكِتَابِwal-kitabiCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+كِتَابِBook 18And the prophetsوَالنَّبِيِّينَwal-nabiyinaCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+نَبِيِّينَProphets 19And givesوَآتَىwa-ataCBFCONJ+Vوَand+آتَىGives 20The wealthالْمَالَl-malaIالthe+مَالَWealth 22Spite of his love for itحُبِّهِhubbihiCBIN+PRONATTحُبِّSpite of his love for+هِhim / his / it 24The near relativesالْقُرْبَىl-qurbaIالthe+قُرْبَىNear relatives 25And the orphansوَالْيَتَامَىwal-yatamaCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+يَتَامَىOrphans 26And the needyوَالْمَسَاكِينَwal-masakinaCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+مَسَاكِينَNeedy 27And ofوَابْنَwa-ibnaCBICONJ+Nوَand+ابْنَOf 28The wayfarerالسَّبِيلِl-sabiliIالthe+سَبِيلِWayfarer 29And those who askوَالسَّائِلِينَwal-sa'ilinaCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+سَائِلِينَThose who ask 31Freeing the necks slavesالرِّقَابِl-riqabiIالthe+رِقَابِFreeing the necks slaves 32And who establishوَأَقَامَwa-aqamaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+أَقَامَWho establish 33The prayerالصَّلَاةَl-salataIالthe+صَلَاةَPrayer 34And giveوَآتَىwa-ataCBFCONJ+Vوَand+آتَىGive 35The zakahالزَّكَاةَl-zakataIالthe+زَكَاةَZakah 36And those who fulfillوَالْمُوفُونَwal-mufunaCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+مُوفُونَThose who fulfill 37Their covenantبِعَهْدِهِمْbi'ahdihimCBIP+N+PRONATTبِwith / in+عَهْدِTheir covenant+هِمْthem / their 39They make itعَاهَدُوا'ahaduF 40And those who areوَالصَّابِرِينَwal-sabirinaCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+صَابِرِينَThose who are 42[the] sufferingالْبَأْسَاءِl-ba'sa'iIالthe+بَأْسَاءِ[the] suffering 43And [the] hardshipوَالضَّرَّاءِwal-dara'iCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+ضَرَّاءِ[the] hardship 44And the timeوَحِينَwahinaCBICONJ+Tوَand+حِينَThe time 45Of [the] stressالْبَأْسِl-ba'siIالthe+بَأْسِOf [the] stress 47Are the ones whoالَّذِينَalladhinaI 48Are trueصَدَقُواsadaquF 49And thoseوَأُولَئِكَwa-ula'ikaCBICONJ+DEMوَand+أُولَئِكَThose 51Are the righteousالْمُتَّقُونَl-mutaqunaIالthe+مُتَّقُونَAre the righteous يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْقِصَاصُ فِى ٱلْقَتْلَى ۖ ٱلْحُرُّ بِٱلْحُرِّ وَٱلْعَبْدُ بِٱلْعَبْدِ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰ بِٱلْأُنثَىٰ ۚ فَمَنْ عُفِىَ لَهُۥ مِنْ أَخِيهِ شَىْءٌ فَٱتِّبَاعٌۢ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَأَدَآءٌ إِلَيْهِ بِإِحْسَٰنٍ ۗ ذَٰلِكَ تَخْفِيفٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ ۗ فَمَنِ ٱعْتَدَىٰ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَلَهُۥ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿178﴾
O you who have believed, prescribed for you is legal retribution for those murdered - the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But whoever overlooks from his brother anything, then there should be a suitable follow-up and payment to him with good conduct. This is an alleviation from your Lord and a mercy. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment.

And there is for you in legal retribution [saving of] life, O you [people] of understanding, that you may become righteous.

Prescribed for you when death approaches [any] one of you if he leaves wealth [is that he should make] a bequest for the parents and near relatives according to what is acceptable - a duty upon the righteous.

Then whoever alters the bequest after he has heard it - the sin is only upon those who have altered it. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

But if one fears from the bequeather [some] error or sin and corrects that which is between them, there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
