Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about learning Quranic Arabic here at ILMHUB.org. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.

Is ILMHUB.org really free?

Yes. Every lesson and resource on ILMHUB.org is free to use — no sign-up, no paywall, no condition. These resources are offered as a service to the Ummah.

The fuller, structured courses — with video lectures, slide decks, worksheets, and ongoing feedback — are available separately at ILMHUB.net.

Do I need any prior Arabic knowledge to start?

No. The courses are designed for English-speaking adults with no prior Arabic background. The teaching approach comes from years of understanding exactly where English speakers get stuck — and how to make classical Arabic grammar feel intuitive rather than intimidating.

What's the difference between ILMHUB.org and ILMHUB.net?

ILMHUB.org hosts the free versions of every published course. ILMHUB.net hosts the full structured courses — more depth, video lectures, slide decks, worksheets, exercises, and personalised feedback from the teacher.

The free lessons follow the same methodology and are a genuine starting point, not a watered-down preview.

What kind of Arabic do you teach — Modern Standard or dialect?

Classical Quranic Arabic only. Every word, example, and exercise is taken directly from the Quran. There is no dialect, and no Modern Standard Arabic where it differs from the classical Arabic of the Quran.

Which Quran translation do you use?

Quranic verses are translated using The Clear Quran by Dr. Mustafa Khattab. Verse meanings are never paraphrased or reinterpreted.

Do I have to memorise long vocabulary lists?

No. The method puts structure before memorisation. You first learn how Arabic works — the underlying patterns — so you can decode any verse, rather than relying on a memorised word list. Each lesson builds cumulatively on the last.

How is each lesson structured?

Each lesson includes a video, written lesson notes, a terminology reference, and — where available — a downloadable quiz with model answers. Lessons are serial and cumulative, so everything connects by the end of a book.

Where can I look up a grammar term I don't understand?

The Arabic Grammar Glossary contains 194 vocalised grammar terms, searchable in Arabic, in any transliteration spelling, or by the plain-English meaning. Grammar terms inside the lessons link directly to their glossary entry.

Where should I begin?

Can I support ILMHUB?

Yes. The lessons are free, but producing them takes time and resources. You can contribute through the Support page to help keep the content free and growing for the whole Ummah.
