يَسْـَٔلُكَ أَهْلُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ أَن تُنَزِّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ كِتَٰبًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۚ فَقَدْ سَأَلُوا۟ مُوسَىٰٓ أَكْبَرَ مِن ذَٰلِكَ فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَرِنَا ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ بِظُلْمِهِمْ ۚ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلْعِجْلَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَٰتُ فَعَفَوْنَا عَن ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ سُلْطَٰنًا مُّبِينًا ﴿153﴾
The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses [even] greater than that and said, "Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf [for worship] after clear evidences had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority.

← read from right to left1Ask youيَسْأَلُكَyas'alukaCBFV+PRONATTيَسْأَلُAsk+كَyou / your 3Of the Bookالْكِتَابِl-kitabiIالthe+كِتَابِOf the Book 5You bring downتُنَزِّلَtunazzilaF 6To themعَلَيْهِمْ'alayhimCBHP+PRONATTعَلَىTo+هِمْthem / their 9The heavenالسَّمَاءِl-sama'iIالthe+سَمَاءِHeaven 10Then indeedفَقَدْfaqadCBHCONJ+CERTفَso / then+قَدْIndeed 11They had askedسَأَلُواsa-aluF 16For they saidفَقَالُواfaqaluCBFCONJ+Vفَso / then+قَالُواFor they said 19ManifestlyجَهْرَةًjahratanI 20So struck themفَأَخَذَتْهُمُfa-akhadhathumuCBFCONJ+V+PRONATTفَso / then+أَخَذَتْStruck+هُمُthem / their 21The thunderboltالصَّاعِقَةُl-sa'iqatuIالthe+صَاعِقَةُThunderbolt 22For their wrongdoingبِظُلْمِهِمْbizulmihimCBIP+N+PRONATTبِwith / in+ظُلْمِFor their wrongdoing+هِمْthem / their 24They tookاتَّخَذُواittakhadhuF 25The calf for worshipالْعِجْلَl-'ijlaIالthe+عِجْلَCalf for worship 29Came to themجَاءَتْهُمُja'athumuCBFV+PRONATTجَاءَتْCame to+هُمُthem / their 30The clear proofsالْبَيِّنَاتُl-bayinatuIالthe+بَيِّنَاتُClear proofs 31Then we forgave themفَعَفَوْنَاfa'afawnaCBFCONJ+Vفَso / then+عَفَوْنَاWe forgave them 34And we gaveوَآتَيْنَاwa-ataynaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+آتَيْنَاWe gave 36An authorityسُلْطَانًاsultananI وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَهُمُ ٱلطُّورَ بِمِيثَٰقِهِمْ وَقُلْنَا لَهُمُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْبَابَ سُجَّدًا وَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ لَا تَعْدُوا۟ فِى ٱلسَّبْتِ وَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًا ﴿154﴾
And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly", and We said to them, "Do not transgress on the sabbath", and We took from them a solemn covenant.

← read from right to left1And we raisedوَرَفَعْنَاwarafa'naCBFCONJ+Vوَand+رَفَعْنَاWe raised 2Over themفَوْقَهُمُfawqahumuCBILOC+PRONATTفَوْقَOver+هُمُthem / their 3The mountالطُّورَl-turaIالthe+طُورَMount 4For their covenantبِمِيثَاقِهِمْbimithaqihimCBIP+N+PRONATTبِwith / in+مِيثَاقِFor their covenant+هِمْthem / their 5And we saidوَقُلْنَاwaqulnaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+قُلْنَاWe said 6To themلَهُمُlahumuCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+هُمُthem / their 8The gateالْبَابَl-babaIالthe+بَابَGate 9ProstratingسُجَّدًاsujjadanI 10And we saidوَقُلْنَاwaqulnaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+قُلْنَاWe said 11To themلَهُمْlahumCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+هُمْthem / their 13Transgressتَعْدُواta'duF 15The sabbathالسَّبْتِl-sabtiIالthe+سَبْتِSabbath 16And we tookوَأَخَذْنَاwa-akhadhnaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+أَخَذْنَاWe took 17From themمِنْهُمْminhumCBHP+PRONATTمِنْFrom+هُمْthem / their 18A covenantمِيثَاقًاmithaqanI 19SolemnغَلِيظًاghalizanI فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِم مِّيثَٰقَهُمْ وَكُفْرِهِم بِـَٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَتْلِهِمُ ٱلْأَنۢبِيَآءَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَقَوْلِهِمْ قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌۢ ۚ بَلْ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهَا بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ﴿155﴾
And [We cursed them] for their breaking of the covenant and their disbelief in the signs of Allah and their killing of the prophets without right and their saying, "Our hearts are wrapped". Rather, Allah has sealed them because of their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.

And [We cursed them] for their disbelief and their saying against Mary a great slander,

And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.

Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness.

For wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful for them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many [people],

And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbidden from it, and their consuming of the people's wealth unjustly. And we have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.

← read from right to left1And for their takingوَأَخْذِهِمُwa-akhdhihimuCBICONJ+N+PRONATTوَand+أَخْذِFor their taking+هِمُthem / their 2Of [the] usuryالرِّبَاl-ribaIالthe+رِبَاOf [the] usury 3While certainlyوَقَدْwaqadCBHCONJ+CERTوَand+قَدْWhile certainly 4They were forbiddenنُهُواnuhuF 5From itعَنْهُ'anhuCBHP+PRONATTعَنْFrom+هُhim / his / it 6And for their consumingوَأَكْلِهِمْwa-aklihimCBICONJ+N+PRONATTوَand+أَكْلِFor their consuming+هِمْthem / their 8Of the peopleالنَّاسِl-nasiIالthe+نَاسِOf the people 9Wrongfullyبِالْبَاطِلِbil-batiliCBIP+Nبِwith / in+الthe+بَاطِلِWrongfully 10And we have preparedوَأَعْتَدْنَاwa-a'tadnaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+أَعْتَدْنَاWe have prepared 11For the disbelieversلِلْكَافِرِينَlilkafirinaCBIP+Nلِلfor the+كَافِرِينَDisbelievers 12Among themمِنْهُمْminhumCBHP+PRONATTمِنْAmong+هُمْthem / their 13A punishmentعَذَابًا'adhabanI لَّٰكِنِ ٱلرَّٰسِخُونَ فِى ٱلْعِلْمِ مِنْهُمْ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ وَٱلْمُقِيمِينَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۚ وَٱلْمُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ سَنُؤْتِيهِمْ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا ﴿162﴾
But those firm in knowledge among them and the believers believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you. And the establishers of prayer [especially] and the givers of zakah and the believers in Allah and the Last Day - those We will give a great reward.
