يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقَالُوا۟ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ إِذَا ضَرَبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَوْ كَانُوا۟ غُزًّى لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ عِندَنَا مَا مَاتُوا۟ وَمَا قُتِلُوا۟ لِيَجْعَلَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ حَسْرَةً فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ ﴿156﴾
O you who have believed, do not be like those who disbelieved and said about their brothers when they traveled through the land or went out to fight, "If they had been with us, they would not have died or have been killed," so Allah makes that [misconception] a regret within their hearts. And it is Allah who gives life and causes death, and Allah is Seeing of what you do.

← read from right to left1O youيَاأَيُّهَاya'ayyuhaH 6Like those whoكَالَّذِينَka-alladhinaCBIP+RELكَlike+الَّذِينَThose who 7DisbelievedكَفَرُواkafaruF 8And they saidوَقَالُواwaqaluCBFCONJ+Vوَand+قَالُواThey said 9About their brothersلِإِخْوَانِهِمْli-ikhwanihimCBIP+N+PRONATTلِfor / to+إِخْوَانِAbout their brothers+هِمْthem / their 11They traveledضَرَبُواdarabuF 13The earthالْأَرْضِl-ardiIالthe+أَرْضِEarth 18They had beenكَانُواkanuF 21They would have diedمَاتُواmatuF 23They would have been killedقُتِلُواqutiluF 24So makesلِيَجْعَلَliyaj'alaCBFP+Vلِfor / to+يَجْعَلَSo makes 27A regretحَسْرَةًhasratanI 29Their heartsقُلُوبِهِمْqulubihimCBIN+PRONATTقُلُوبِTheir hearts+هِمْthem / their 30And Allahوَاللَّهُwal-lahuCBICONJ+PNوَand+اللَّهُAllah 31Gives lifeيُحْيِيyuhyiF 32And causes deathوَيُمِيتُwayumituCBFCONJ+Vوَand+يُمِيتُCauses death 33And Allahوَاللَّهُwal-lahuCBICONJ+PNوَand+اللَّهُAllah 34Of whatبِمَاbimaCBIP+RELبِwith / in+مَاOf what 35You doتَعْمَلُونَta'malunaF 36Is all seerبَصِيرٌbasirunI وَلَئِن قُتِلْتُمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ مُتُّمْ لَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرَحْمَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ ﴿157﴾
And if you are killed in the cause of Allah or die - then forgiveness from Allah and mercy are better than whatever they accumulate [in this world].

And whether you die or are killed, unto Allah you will be gathered.

← read from right to left4Are killedقُتِلْتُمْqutiltumF 5Surely toلَإِلَىla-ilaCBHLAM+Pلَfor / to+إِلَىSurely to 7You will be gatheredتُحْشَرُونَtuhsharunaF فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ ٱلْقَلْبِ لَٱنفَضُّوا۟ مِنْ حَوْلِكَ ۖ فَٱعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ ﴿159﴾
So by mercy from Allah, [O Muhammad], you were lenient with them. And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. And when you have decided, then rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].

← read from right to left1So becauseفَبِمَاfabimaCBHCONJ+P+ZAIDفَso / then+بِwith / in+مَاBecause 2Of mercyرَحْمَةٍrahmatinI 5You dealt gentlyلِنْتَlintaF 6With themلَهُمْlahumCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+هُمْthem / their 8You had beenكُنْتَkuntaF 10And harshغَلِيظَghalizaI 11At [the] heartالْقَلْبِl-qalbiIالthe+قَلْبِAt [the] heart 12Surely they would have dispersedلَانْفَضُّواla-infadduCBFLAM+Vلَfor / to+انْفَضُّواSurely they would have dispersed 14Around youحَوْلِكَhawlikaCBIN+PRONATTحَوْلِAround+كَyou / your 15Then pardonفَاعْفُfa-u'fuCBFCONJ+Vفَso / then+اعْفُPardon 16[from] themعَنْهُمْ'anhumCBHP+PRONATTعَنْ[from]+هُمْthem / their 17And ask forgivenessوَاسْتَغْفِرْwa-istaghfirCBFCONJ+Vوَand+اسْتَغْفِرْAsk forgiveness 18For themلَهُمْlahumCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+هُمْthem / their 19And consult themوَشَاوِرْهُمْwashawirhumCBFCONJ+V+PRONATTوَand+شَاوِرْConsult+هُمْthem / their 21The matterالْأَمْرِl-amriIالthe+أَمْرِMatter 22Then whenفَإِذَاfa-idhaCBICONJ+Tفَso / then+إِذَاWhen 23You have decidedعَزَمْتَ'azamtaF 24Then put trustفَتَوَكَّلْfatawakkalCBFCONJ+Vفَso / then+تَوَكَّلْPut trust 30The ones who put trust in himالْمُتَوَكِّلِينَl-mutawakilinaIالthe+مُتَوَكِّلِينَOnes who put trust in him إِن يَنصُرْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا غَالِبَ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَخْذُلْكُمْ فَمَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَنصُرُكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿160﴾
If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely.

← read from right to left2Allah helps youيَنْصُرْكُمُyansurkumuCBFV+PRONATTيَنْصُرْAllah helps+كُمُyou / your (pl.) 3Allah helps youاللَّهُl-lahuI 5Can overcomeغَالِبَghalibaI 6[for] youلَكُمْlakumCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+كُمْyou / your (pl.) 8He forsakes youيَخْذُلْكُمْyakhdhulkumCBFV+PRONATTيَخْذُلْHe forsakes+كُمْyou / your (pl.) 11Is the one whoالَّذِيalladhiI 12Can help youيَنْصُرُكُمْyansurukumCBFV+PRONATTيَنْصُرُCan help+كُمْyou / your (pl.) 14After himبَعْدِهِba'dihiCBIN+PRONATTبَعْدِAfter+هِhim / his / it 15And onوَعَلَىwa'alaCBHCONJ+Pوَand+عَلَىOn 17Let the believers put their trustفَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkaliCBFCONJ+LAM+Vفَso / then+لْfor / to+لِيَتَوَكَّلْLet the believers put their trust 18Let the believers put their trustالْمُؤْمِنُونَl-mu'minunaIالthe+مُؤْمِنُونَLet the believers put their trust وَمَا كَانَ لِنَبِىٍّ أَن يَغُلَّ ۚ وَمَن يَغْلُلْ يَأْتِ بِمَا غَلَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ ۚ ثُمَّ تُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ ﴿161﴾
It is not [attributable] to any prophet that he would act unfaithfully [in regard to war booty]. And whoever betrays, [taking unlawfully], will come with what he took on the Day of Resurrection. Then will every soul be [fully] compensated for what it earned, and they will not be wronged.

So is one who pursues the pleasure of Allah like one who brings upon himself the anger of Allah and whose refuge is Hell? And wretched is the destination.

They are [varying] degrees in the sight of Allah, and Allah is Seeing of whatever they do.

Certainly did Allah confer [great] favor upon the believers when He sent among them a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses and purifying them and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in manifest error.

← read from right to left2Allah bestowed a favorمَنَّmannaF 3Allah bestowed a favorاللَّهُl-lahuI 5The believersالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'mininaIالthe+مُؤْمِنِينَBelievers 8Among themفِيهِمْfihimCBHP+PRONATTفِيAmong+هِمْthem / their 9A MessengerرَسُولًاrasulanI 11ThemselvesأَنْفُسِهِمْanfusihimCBIN+PRONATTأَنْفُسِthemselves+هِمْthem / their 13To themعَلَيْهِمْ'alayhimCBHP+PRONATTعَلَىTo+هِمْthem / their 14His versesآيَاتِهِayatihiCBIN+PRONATTآيَاتِHis verses+هِhim / his / it 15And purifying themوَيُزَكِّيهِمْwayuzakkihimCBFCONJ+V+PRONATTوَand+يُزَكِّيPurifying+هِمْthem / their 16And teaching themوَيُعَلِّمُهُمُwayu'allimuhumuCBFCONJ+V+PRONATTوَand+يُعَلِّمُTeaching+هُمُthem / their 17The Bookالْكِتَابَl-kitabaIالthe+كِتَابَBook 18And the wisdomوَالْحِكْمَةَwal-hikmataCBICONJ+Nوَand+الthe+حِكْمَةَWisdom 22Before thatقَبْلُqabluI 23Certainly inلَفِيlafiCBHLAM+Pلَfor / to+فِيCertainly in 24The errorضَلَالٍdalalinI أَوَلَمَّآ أَصَٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَدْ أَصَبْتُم مِّثْلَيْهَا قُلْتُمْ أَنَّىٰ هَٰذَا ۖ قُلْ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ أَنفُسِكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ﴿165﴾
Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uhud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves." Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.

And what struck you on the day the two armies met was by permission of Allah that He might make evident the [true] believers.

← read from right to left2Struck youأَصَابَكُمْasabakumCBFV+PRONATTأَصَابَStruck+كُمْyou / your (pl.) 5The two hostsالْجَمْعَانِl-jam'aniIالthe+جَمْعَانِTwo hosts 6Was by the permissionفَبِإِذْنِfabi-idhniCBICONJ+P+Nفَso / then+بِwith / in+إِذْنِWas by the permission 8And that he might make evidentوَلِيَعْلَمَwaliya'lamaCBFCONJ+P+Vوَand+لِfor / to+يَعْلَمَThat he might make evident 9The believersالْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'mininaIالthe+مُؤْمِنِينَBelievers وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ ۚ وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ قَٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدْفَعُوا۟ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَّٱتَّبَعْنَٰكُمْ ۗ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَٰنِ ۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ ﴿167﴾
And that He might make evident those who are hypocrites. For it was said to them, "Come, fight in the way of Allah or [at least] defend." They said, "If we had known [there would be] fighting, we would have followed you." They were nearer to disbelief that day than to faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allah is most Knowing of what they conceal -

← read from right to left1And that he might make evidentوَلِيَعْلَمَwaliya'lamaCBFCONJ+P+Vوَand+لِfor / to+يَعْلَمَThat he might make evident 2Those whoالَّذِينَalladhinaI 3Are hypocritesنَافَقُواnafaquF 4And it was saidوَقِيلَwaqilaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+قِيلَIt was said 5To themلَهُمْlahumCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+هُمْthem / their 15We knewنَعْلَمُna'lamuF 16FightingقِتَالًاqitalanI 17Certainly we would have followed youلَاتَّبَعْنَاكُمْla-ittaba'nakumCBFLAM+V+PRONATTلَfor / to+اتَّبَعْنَاCertainly we would have followed+كُمْyou / your (pl.) 19To disbeliefلِلْكُفْرِlilkufriCBIP+Nلِلfor the+كُفْرِDisbelief 20That dayيَوْمَئِذٍyawma'idhinIيَوْمday=إِذْthat 21Were nearerأَقْرَبُaqrabuI 22Than [them]مِنْهُمْminhumCBHP+PRONATTمِنْThan [them]+هُمْthem / their 23To the faithلِلْإِيمَانِlil-imaniCBIP+Nلِلfor the+إِيمَانِFaith 24SayingيَقُولُونَyaqulunaF 25With their mouthsبِأَفْوَاهِهِمْbi-afwahihimCBIP+N+PRONATTبِwith / in+أَفْوَاهِTheir mouths+هِمْthem / their 29Their heartsقُلُوبِهِمْqulubihimCBIN+PRONATTقُلُوبِTheir hearts+هِمْthem / their 30And Allahوَاللَّهُwal-lahuCBICONJ+PNوَand+اللَّهُAllah 31Is most knowingأَعْلَمُa'lamuI 32Of whatبِمَاbimaCBIP+RELبِwith / in+مَاOf what 33They concealيَكْتُمُونَyaktumunaF ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ وَقَعَدُوا۟ لَوْ أَطَاعُونَا مَا قُتِلُوا۟ ۗ قُلْ فَٱدْرَءُوا۟ عَنْ أَنفُسِكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ ﴿168﴾
Those who said about their brothers while sitting [at home], "If they had obeyed us, they would not have been killed." Say, "Then prevent death from yourselves, if you should be truthful."

And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision,

← read from right to left2ThinkتَحْسَبَنَّtahsabannaCBFV+PRONATTتَحْسَبَThink+نَّemphasis 3Of those whoالَّذِينَalladhinaI 4Are killedقُتِلُواqutiluF 8As deadأَمْوَاتًاamwatanI 10They are aliveأَحْيَاءٌahya'onI 12Their LordرَبِّهِمْrabbihimCBIN+PRONATTرَبِّTheir Lord+هِمْthem / their 13They are given provisionيُرْزَقُونَyurzaqunaF فَرِحِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَلْحَقُوا۟ بِهِم مِّنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلَّا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ ﴿170﴾
Rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty, and they receive good tidings about those [to be martyred] after them who have not yet joined them - that there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

← read from right to left1RejoicingفَرِحِينَfarihinaI 2In whatبِمَاbimaCBIP+RELبِwith / in+مَاWhat 3Allah bestowed themآتَاهُمُatahumuCBFV+PRONATTآتَاAllah bestowed+هُمُthem / their 4Allah bestowed themاللَّهُl-lahuI 6His bountyفَضْلِهِfadlihiCBIN+PRONATTفَضْلِHis bounty+هِhim / his / it 7And they receive good tidingsوَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَwayastabshirunaCBFCONJ+Vوَand+يَسْتَبْشِرُونَThey receive good tidings 8About those whoبِالَّذِينَbi-alladhinaCBIP+RELبِwith / in+الَّذِينَAbout those who 10Yet joinedيَلْحَقُواyalhaquF 11[with] themبِهِمْbihimCBHP+PRONATTبِwith / in+هِمْthem / their 13But are left behindخَلْفِهِمْkhalfihimCBIN+PRONATTخَلْفِBut are left behind+هِمْthem / their 14That there will be noأَلَّاallaCBHأَنْthat=لَاnot 16On themعَلَيْهِمْ'alayhimCBHP+PRONATTعَلَىOn+هِمْthem / their 19Will grieveيَحْزَنُونَyahzanunaF يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَفَضْلٍ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ﴿171﴾
They receive good tidings of favor from Allah and bounty and [of the fact] that Allah does not allow the reward of believers to be lost -
