التوبة

Surah 9 · Ruku 11 of 16 · ayahs 81–89 · Juz 10 · pages 200–201 · Madani

فَرِحَ ٱلْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلَٰفَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ وَكَرِهُوٓا۟ أَن يُجَٰهِدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَنفِرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَرِّ ۗ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّا ۚ لَّوْ كَانُوا۟ يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿81﴾

Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah and said, "Do not go forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat" - if they would but understand.

And they dislikedوَكَرِهُواCBFCONJ+Vوَand+كَرِهُواThey disliked

ToأَنْH

StriveيُجَاهِدُواF

With their wealthبِأَمْوَالِهِمْCBIP+N+PRONATTبِwith / in+أَمْوَالِTheir wealth+هِمْthem / their

And their livesوَأَنْفُسِهِمْCBICONJ+N+PRONATTوَand+أَنْفُسِTheir lives+هِمْthem / their

InفِيH

The wayسَبِيلِI

Of AllahاللَّهِI

And they saidوَقَالُواCBFCONJ+Vوَand+قَالُواThey said

Do notلَاH

Go forthتَنْفِرُواF

InفِيH

The heatالْحَرِّIالthe+حَرِّHeat

SayقُلْF

The fireنَارُI

Of HellجَهَنَّمَI

Is more intenseأَشَدُّI

In heatحَرًّاI

If onlyلَوْH

They couldكَانُواF

UnderstandيَفْقَهُونَF

9:82

فَلْيَضْحَكُوا۟ قَلِيلًا وَلْيَبْكُوا۟ كَثِيرًا جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ ﴿82﴾

So let them laugh a little and [then] weep much as recompense for what they used to earn.

So let them laughفَلْيَضْحَكُواCBFCONJ+LAM+Vفَso / then+لْfor / to+لِيَضْحَكُواLet them laugh

A littleقَلِيلًاI

And let them weepوَلْيَبْكُواCBFCONJ+LAM+Vوَand+لْfor / to+لِيَبْكُواLet them weep

MuchكَثِيرًاI

As a recompenseجَزَاءًI

For whatبِمَاCBHP+SUBبِwith / in+مَاFor what

They used toكَانُواF

EarnيَكْسِبُونَF

9:83

فَإِن رَّجَعَكَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَىٰ طَآئِفَةٍ مِّنْهُمْ فَٱسْتَـْٔذَنُوكَ لِلْخُرُوجِ فَقُل لَّن تَخْرُجُوا۟ مَعِىَ أَبَدًا وَلَن تُقَٰتِلُوا۟ مَعِىَ عَدُوًّا ۖ إِنَّكُمْ رَضِيتُم بِٱلْقُعُودِ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ فَٱقْعُدُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَٰلِفِينَ ﴿83﴾

If Allah should return you to a faction of them [after the expedition] and then they ask your permission to go out [to battle], say, "You will not go out with me, ever, and you will never fight with me an enemy. Indeed, you were satisfied with sitting [at home] the first time, so sit [now] with those who stay behind."

Then ifفَإِنْCBHCONJ+CONDفَso / then+إِنْIf

Allah returns youرَجَعَكَCBFV+PRONATTرَجَعَAllah returns+كَyou / your

Allah returns youاللَّهُI

ToإِلَىH

A groupطَائِفَةٍI

Of themمِنْهُمْCBHP+PRONATTمِنْOf+هُمْthem / their

And they ask you permissionفَاسْتَأْذَنُوكَCBFCONJ+V+PRONATTفَso / then+اسْتَأْذَنُوAnd they ask you permission+كَyou / your

To go outلِلْخُرُوجِCBIP+Nلِلfor the+خُرُوجِGo out

Then sayفَقُلْCBFCONJ+Vفَso / then+قُلْSay

NeverلَنْH

Will you come outتَخْرُجُواF

With meمَعِيَI

EverأَبَدًاI

And neverوَلَنْCBHCONJ+NEGوَand+لَنْNever

Will you fightتُقَاتِلُواF

With meمَعِيَI

Any enemyعَدُوًّاI

Indeed youإِنَّكُمْCBHACC+PRONATTإِنَّIndeed+كُمْyou / your (pl.)

Were satisfiedرَضِيتُمْF

With sittingبِالْقُعُودِCBIP+Nبِwith / in+الthe+قُعُودِSitting

The firstأَوَّلَI

TimeمَرَّةٍI

So sitفَاقْعُدُواCBFCONJ+Vفَso / then+اقْعُدُواSit

WithمَعَI

Those who stay behindالْخَالِفِينَIالthe+خَالِفِينَThose who stay behind

9:84

وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰٓ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدًا وَلَا تَقُمْ عَلَىٰ قَبْرِهِۦٓ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ ﴿84﴾

And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.

And notوَلَاCBHCONJ+NEGوَand+لَاNot

You prayتُصَلِّF

ForعَلَىH

AnyأَحَدٍI

Of themمِنْهُمْCBHP+PRONATTمِنْOf+هُمْthem / their

Who diesمَاتَF

EverأَبَدًاI

And notوَلَاCBHCONJ+PROوَand+لَاNot

You standتَقُمْF

ByعَلَىH

His graveقَبْرِهِCBIN+PRONATTقَبْرِHis grave+هِhim / his / it

Indeed theyإِنَّهُمْCBHACC+PRONATTإِنَّIndeed+هُمْthem / their

DisbelievedكَفَرُواF

In AllahبِاللَّهِCBIP+PNبِwith / in+اللَّهِAllah

And his MessengerوَرَسُولِهِCBICONJ+N+PRONATTوَand+رَسُولِHis Messenger+هِhim / his / it

And diedوَمَاتُواCBFCONJ+Vوَand+مَاتُواDied

While they wereوَهُمْCBICONJ+PRONSUBJوَand+هُمْWhile they were

Defiantly disobedientفَاسِقُونَI

9:85

وَلَا تُعْجِبْكَ أَمْوَٰلُهُمْ وَأَوْلَٰدُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُعَذِّبَهُم بِهَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَتَزْهَقَ أَنفُسُهُمْ وَهُمْ كَٰفِرُونَ ﴿85﴾

And let not their wealth and their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in this world and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.

And let notوَلَاCBHCONJ+PROوَand+لَاLet not

Impress youتُعْجِبْكَCBFV+PRONATTتُعْجِبْImpress+كَyou / your

Their wealthأَمْوَالُهُمْCBIN+PRONATTأَمْوَالُTheir wealth+هُمْthem / their

And their childrenوَأَوْلَادُهُمْCBICONJ+N+PRONATTوَand+أَوْلَادُTheir children+هُمْthem / their

OnlyإِنَّمَاCBHإِنَّindeed=مَاonly

Allah intendsيُرِيدُF

Allah intendsاللَّهُI

ToأَنْH

Punish themيُعَذِّبَهُمْCBFV+PRONATTيُعَذِّبَPunish+هُمْthem / their

With itبِهَاCBHP+PRONATTبِwith / in+هَاher / it / its

InفِيH

The worldالدُّنْيَاIالthe+دُنْيَاWorld

And will departوَتَزْهَقَCBFCONJ+Vوَand+تَزْهَقَWill depart

Their soulsأَنْفُسُهُمْCBIN+PRONATTأَنْفُسُTheir souls+هُمْthem / their

While theyوَهُمْCBICONJ+PRONSUBJوَand+هُمْWhile they

Are disbelieversكَافِرُونَI

9:86

وَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ أَنْ ءَامِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَجَٰهِدُوا۟ مَعَ رَسُولِهِ ٱسْتَـْٔذَنَكَ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلطَّوْلِ مِنْهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ ذَرْنَا نَكُن مَّعَ ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ ﴿86﴾

And when a surah was revealed [enjoining them] to believe in Allah and to fight with His Messenger, those of wealth among them asked your permission [to stay back] and said, "Leave us to be with them who sit [at home]."

And whenوَإِذَاCBICONJ+Tوَand+إِذَاWhen

Was revealedأُنْزِلَتْF

A surahسُورَةٌI

ThatأَنْH

BelieveآمِنُواF

In AllahبِاللَّهِCBIP+PNبِwith / in+اللَّهِAllah

And striveوَجَاهِدُواCBFCONJ+Vوَand+جَاهِدُواStrive

WithمَعَI

His MessengerرَسُولِهِCBIN+PRONATTرَسُولِHis Messenger+هِhim / his / it

Ask your permissionاسْتَأْذَنَكَCBFV+PRONATTاسْتَأْذَنَAsk your permission+كَyou / your

The menأُولُوI

Of wealthالطَّوْلِIالthe+طَوْلِOf wealth

Among themمِنْهُمْCBHP+PRONATTمِنْAmong+هُمْthem / their

And saidوَقَالُواCBFCONJ+Vوَand+قَالُواSaid

Leave usذَرْنَاF

To beنَكُنْF

WithمَعَI

Those who sitالْقَاعِدِينَIالthe+قَاعِدِينَThose who sit

9:87

رَضُوا۟ بِأَن يَكُونُوا۟ مَعَ ٱلْخَوَالِفِ وَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ ﴿87﴾

They were satisfied to be with those who stay behind, and their hearts were sealed over, so they do not understand.

They were satisfiedرَضُواF

BeيَكُونُواF

WithمَعَI

Those who stay behindالْخَوَالِفِIالthe+خَوَالِفِThose who stay behind

And were sealedوَطُبِعَCBFCONJ+Vوَand+طُبِعَWere sealed

[on]عَلَىH

Their heartsقُلُوبِهِمْCBIN+PRONATTقُلُوبِTheir hearts+هِمْthem / their

So theyفَهُمْCBICONJ+PRONSUBJفَso / then+هُمْThey

Do notلَاH

UnderstandيَفْقَهُونَF

9:88

لَٰكِنِ ٱلرَّسُولُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مَعَهُۥ جَٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ لَهُمُ ٱلْخَيْرَٰتُ ۖ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ﴿88﴾

But the Messenger and those who believed with him fought with their wealth and their lives. Those will have [all that is] good, and it is those who are the successful.

ButلَكِنِH

The MessengerالرَّسُولُIالthe+رَسُولُMessenger

And those whoوَالَّذِينَCBICONJ+RELوَand+الَّذِينَThose who

BelievedآمَنُواF

With himمَعَهُI

StroveجَاهَدُواF

With their wealthبِأَمْوَالِهِمْCBIP+N+PRONATTبِwith / in+أَمْوَالِTheir wealth+هِمْthem / their

And their livesوَأَنْفُسِهِمْCBICONJ+N+PRONATTوَand+أَنْفُسِTheir lives+هِمْthem / their

And thoseوَأُولَئِكَCBICONJ+DEMوَand+أُولَئِكَThose

For themلَهُمُCBHP+PRONATTلَfor / to+هُمُthem / their

Are the good thingsالْخَيْرَاتُIالthe+خَيْرَاتُAre the good things

And thoseوَأُولَئِكَCBICONJ+DEMوَand+أُولَئِكَThose

TheyهُمُI

Are the successful onesالْمُفْلِحُونَIالthe+مُفْلِحُونَAre the successful ones

9:89

أَعَدَّ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ ﴿89﴾

Allah has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide eternally. That is the great attainment.

Is the successالْفَوْزُIالthe+فَوْزُIs the success
