أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ مِمَّا يَخْلُقُ بَنَاتٍ وَأَصْفَىٰكُم بِٱلْبَنِينَ ﴿16﴾

Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons?

OrأَمِH
Has he takenاتَّخَذَF
Of whatمِمَّاCBIP+RELمِنfrom / of=مَاwhat
He has createdيَخْلُقُF
DaughtersبَنَاتٍI
And he has chosen for youوَأَصْفَاكُمْCBFCONJ+V+PRONATTوَand+أَصْفَاHe has chosen for+كُمْyou / your (pl.)
SonsبِالْبَنِينَCBIP+Nبِwith / in+الthe+بَنِينَSons

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحْمَٰنِ مَثَلًا ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ ﴿17﴾

And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.

Is given good newsبُشِّرَF
To one of themأَحَدُهُمْCBINUM+PRONATTأَحَدُTo one of+هُمْthem / their

He sets upضَرَبَF
For the most GraciousلِلرَّحْمَنِCBIP+PNلِلfor the+رَحْمَنِMost Gracious
As a likenessمَثَلًاI
BecomesظَلَّF
His faceوَجْهُهُCBIN+PRONATTوَجْهُHis face+هُhim / his / it
DarkمُسْوَدًّاI
And heوَهُوَCBICONJ+PRONSUBJوَand+هُوَHe
Is filled with griefكَظِيمٌI

أَوَمَن يُنَشَّؤُا۟ فِى ٱلْحِلْيَةِ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلْخِصَامِ غَيْرُ مُبِينٍ ﴿18﴾

So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident [attributed to Allah]?

The disputeالْخِصَامِIالthe+خِصَامِDispute
Is notغَيْرُI
ClearمُبِينٍI

وَجَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عِبَٰدُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ إِنَٰثًا ۚ أَشَهِدُوا۟ خَلْقَهُمْ ۚ سَتُكْتَبُ شَهَٰدَتُهُمْ وَيُسْـَٔلُونَ ﴿19﴾

And they have made the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.

And they madeوَجَعَلُواCBFCONJ+Vوَand+جَعَلُواThey made
The angelsالْمَلَائِكَةَIالthe+مَلَائِكَةَAngels
Those whoالَّذِينَI
ThemselvesهُمْI
Are slavesعِبَادُI
Of the most GraciousالرَّحْمَنِIالthe+رَحْمَنِOf the most Gracious
FemalesإِنَاثًاI
Did they witnessأَشَهِدُواCBFINTG+Vأَis it? / did?+شَهِدُواThey witness
Their creationخَلْقَهُمْCBIN+PRONATTخَلْقَTheir creation+هُمْthem / their
Will be recordedسَتُكْتَبُCBFFUT+Vسَwill+تُكْتَبُBe recorded
Their testimonyشَهَادَتُهُمْCBIN+PRONATTشَهَادَتُTheir testimony+هُمْthem / their
And they will be questionedوَيُسْأَلُونَCBFCONJ+Vوَand+يُسْأَلُونَThey will be questioned

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَٰهُم ۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ ﴿20﴾

And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but falsifying.

AnyمِنْH
KnowledgeعِلْمٍI
NothingإِنْH
They doهُمْI
ButإِلَّاHإِنْif=لَاnot
LieيَخْرُصُونَF

أَمْ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ كِتَٰبًا مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ فَهُم بِهِۦ مُسْتَمْسِكُونَ ﴿21﴾

Or have We given them a book before the Qur'an to which they are adhering?

Are holding fastمُسْتَمْسِكُونَI

بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِم مُّهْتَدُونَ ﴿22﴾

Rather, they say, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided."

A religionأُمَّةٍI

OnعَلَىH
Their footstepsآثَارِهِمْCBIN+PRONATTآثَارِTheir footsteps+هِمْthem / their
Are guidedمُهْتَدُونَI

وَكَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى قَرْيَةٍ مِّن نَّذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَآ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا عَلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَٰرِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ ﴿23﴾

And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."

ExceptإِلَّاHإِنْif=لَاnot
SaidقَالَF
The wealthy ones of itمُتْرَفُوهَاCBIN+PRONATTمُتْرَفُوThe wealthy ones of+هَاher / it / its
Indeed weإِنَّاCBHACC+PRONATTإِIndeed we+ناus / our
[we] foundوَجَدْنَاF
Our forefathersآبَاءَنَاCBIN+PRONATTآبَاءَOur forefathers+نَاus / our
OnعَلَىH
A religionأُمَّةٍI
And indeed weوَإِنَّاCBHCONJ+ACC+PRONATTوَand+إِIndeed we+ناus / our
[on]عَلَىH
Their footstepsآثَارِهِمْCBIN+PRONATTآثَارِTheir footsteps+هِمْthem / their
Are followingمُقْتَدُونَI

قَٰلَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكُم بِأَهْدَىٰ مِمَّا وَجَدتُّمْ عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَكُمْ ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ ﴿24﴾

[Each warner] said, "Even if I brought you better guidance than that [religion] upon which you found your fathers?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."

Than whatمِمَّاCBIP+RELمِنfrom / of=مَاwhat
You foundوَجَدْتُمْF
On itعَلَيْهِCBHP+PRONATTعَلَىOn+هِhim / his / it
Your forefathersآبَاءَكُمْCBIN+PRONATTآبَاءَYour forefathers+كُمْyou / your (pl.)
They saidقَالُواF
Indeed weإِنَّاCBHACC+PRONATTإِIndeed we+ناus / our
With whatبِمَاCBIP+RELبِwith / in+مَاWhat
You are sentأُرْسِلْتُمْF
With [it]بِهِCBHP+PRONATTبِwith / in+هِhim / his / it
Are disbelieversكَافِرُونَI

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ ۖ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ﴿25﴾

So we took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.
